João Miguel Lameiras has a Masters Degree in History of Art, but has been working with comics for more than 20 years, as a professor, critic, editorial adviser, owner of a comicbook Shop (Dr. Kartoon in Coimbra), writer and publisher. He has also curated more than a dozen exhibitions on comics to the main Portuguese comic events. He has been working as an editorial advisor for Devir editions and as a comic book translator for several publishing houses.
He regularly writes about Comics in the newspaper Público, in the magazine Bang! and on his blog Por um Punhado de Imagens.He is a specialist of high merit in the area of comics and Illustration and was the coordinating teacher of the Bachelor’s degree of Comics and of the Master’s degree of Illustration of the Escola Superior Artística in Guimarães (Portugal) between 2011 and 2019. He was a member of the jury of the Direção-Geral do Livro, dos Arquivos e das Bibliotecas, responsible for the award of the Ministry of Culture's Literary Creation Scholarships for 2002 and 2020.He has been the programmer, producer and coordinator of the Coimbra Comic Book Festival since 2017, having also curated and written texts for exhibitions in France, Spain and Poland.
Since 2017 he has been the specialist responsible for the selection of comics for the national Plano de Cultura, the Plan of Culture of the Ministry of Education.
Last but not least, he has published the books Crossroads and The Inner Revolution (with João Ramalho Santos and José Carlos Fernandes), Éden 2.0 (with João Ramalho Santos and Luís Louro) and The Secrets of Loulé (with André Caetano and João Ramalho Santos).
